Compensation and Benefits Handbook for Service Personnel and Families by the Department of Defense ~ The handbook was compiled in cooperation with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and the Social Security Administration. Additionally; there are references to assistance provided by other governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations. This is the one source of information that covers everything a seriously ill and injured service member will need during his or her recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration.
National Resource Directory ~ The Department of Defense launched this National Resource Directory, a collaborative effort between the departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs. The directory is a Web-based network of care that includes resources for wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans, their families, families of the fallen and those who support them.

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) The DAV has a service to help you with “filing claims for VA disability compensation, rehabilitation and education programs, pensions, death benefits, employment and training programs, rides to medical appointments, and many other programs.” They also help with appeals of adverse decisions. Military Onesource The service is available by phone, online and face-to-face through private counseling sessions in the local community. Highly qualified, master’s prepared consultants provide the service. Personalized consultations on specific issues such as education, special needs, and finances are provided. Customized research detailing community resources and appropriate military referrals are offered. Military Handbooks These free handbooks, written specifically for military service members, include a variety of information about pay, benefits, education and transitioning from the military. There is a benefits handbook covering health care benefits, disability compensation, pension, vocational rehabilitation and employment, education and training, home loan guarantees, life insurance, survivor benefits, homeless veterans, overseas benefits, appeals, workplace benefits, and more.

Yellow Ribbon Program The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) provides partial funding for veterans to cover the cost of tuition at participating private universities. Participating colleges and universities voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. Tri Care - Warrior Navigation and Assistance Program: Administered by Humana Military Healthcare Services to help wounded warriors and their families navigate the health care system and provide them with resources.
TRI CARE For Life (TFL) is the Medicare wrap-around coverage for TRI CARE beneficiaries who have Medicare Part A and Part B, regardless of age or place of residence. The TFL handbook has information about eligibility requirements, getting care and filing claims, as well as details about your pharmacy and dental coverage options. You’ll also find contact information for Social Security, Medicare, DEERS and all TRICARE regions.
